About me
A short description of me and my work
My name is Leon Zimmermann, I was born on 21 June 2000 in Essen, Germany, and I'm a passionate software developer. My enthusiasm for programming began at age 13, when I taught myself Java to build games. What started as a small after-school hobby turned into a career. Already during my studies I worked as a software developer at adesso — first as a working student, then full-time — where I contributed to a wide range of projects. Since 2025 I've been working at iits-consulting GmbH.
Throughout my career I've had the chance to solve plenty of challenges, such as the full conception, implementation, and integration of an application for searching diagnoses and treatments in the healthcare system, using technologies like Docker, Java, Spring Boot, and Thymeleaf.
Since 2024 I've gained a lot of experience with Kubernetes and microservice architectures. I've also worked with Apache Kafka as an event-streaming technology. Because of my interest in software architecture, I completed the ISAQB Foundation Level certification back in 2023 and already have the Advanced Level in my sights. I've since also completed the CKA (November 2025) and CKAD (January 2026) certifications from the Linux Foundation, deepening my Kubernetes knowledge further. Architecture and DevOps are currently the topics I find most exciting and spend the most time learning about.
Across my projects I've naturally gained experience with a wide variety of technologies — all of them are listed in my detailed CV. Having worked with so many different technologies and architectures, I can get up to speed on new projects quickly. I need a lot of variety and love learning new things about software development. I also love reading. When I'm not reading about software development, I read all kinds of novels, or books on psychology, philosophy, or economics. And when I'm not reading, I'm probably spending time with my wife, my dog, my family, and/or my friends.
The technology stack I currently enjoy working with most looks like this:
- Kotlin/Spring Boot on the backend
- Keycloak as identity provider
- Vue/TypeScript on the frontend
- Docker/Kubernetes/Azure
- GitLab
